Your hours, recorded while you work.

Temporal.ist turns the files you save and the sites you choose into time on the right project, then into reports and invoices. There is no timer to remember.

  • No screenshots, no keystrokes
  • Windows, macOS, Linux and your browser
  • Free for one person
An example day in Temporalist: six sessions on three projects, made from saved files, a matching browser tab and a manual timer. The last session is still running.

Set it up once, then forget about it

Four steps, and only the first two take any effort.

  1. Install it where you work

The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, the browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, or the terminal client on a Linux server. Use one or all of them.

  2. Tell each project what belongs to it

Choose its folders on each computer, and add the web addresses you use for it, such as your team's GitHub or Figma files.

  3. Work as usual

Saving a file or opening a matching page starts a session. Fifteen quiet minutes, or closing the last matching tab, ends it. Timers cover calls and everything else.

  4. Review, report and invoice

Correct anything in the calendar, see where the week went, and turn billable time into an invoice when the month ends.

See where the week went

Your days add up on their own: per project, client and tag, with each session in the calendar where you can move or fix it.

Ask your AI assistant

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Gemini, Copilot, Kimi or OpenCode and ask in plain words: start a timer, log a call, fix yesterday, or tell you how long a project took.

  • Deleting entries and sending invoices always ask you to confirm first
  • Client and invoice tools stay off until you allow them

Also included

  • Calendar sync

Finished sessions show up in your Google Calendar or Microsoft 365 calendar.

  • API and webhooks

A REST API with personal keys, and signed webhooks for new projects, new and closed sessions, and new and paid invoices.

  • Works offline

The desktop app and the terminal client save what they record on disk and upload it once you are back online.

  • Knows when you stop

Idle time and sleep are left out. A laptop that wakes within the hour continues the same session.

  • A terminal client

Track on Linux servers over SSH, sign in with a QR code, and run it as a background service.

  • Your data, portable

Download everything that is stored about you, on every plan, or delete your account, whenever you like.

Private by design, not by a setting

Temporal.ist notices that you worked and where. It does not watch how. There is nothing to switch off, because the apps never collect it.

What Temporal.ist records

  • File activity

Which files in your watched folders changed, how often and when. Never what is inside them.

  • Matching websites

That a tab matching one of your rules was open, and for how long. Not the page, and nothing about other sites.

  • Your sessions

Project, start, end, pauses and the task you name.

  • Account and billing

Your name and email address and, on a paid plan, what the payment provider needs to charge you.

What it never records

  • Screenshots or screen recordings

The apps contain no code that could take them.

  • Keystrokes or mouse movement

And no activity percentages or productivity scores built from them.

  • File contents

Your work stays on your computer.

  • Browsing history

Pages that match none of your rules are not recorded at all.

Questions

Something else? Read the documentation or ask us.

How does Temporal.ist know what I am working on?

You tell it once. Each project gets its folders on each computer and, if you like, web addresses. When a file in one of those folders changes, or a browser tab matches one of those addresses, the time goes to that project.

What happens when I step away or close my laptop?

After 15 minutes without file changes the desktop app ends the session; you can set this between 1 and 120 minutes, and it warns you a minute before. Sleep is left out: if the laptop wakes within the hour on the same day, the same session continues.

Can I still track time by hand?

Yes. Start a timer on any project from the web app, the desktop app, the browser extension or the terminal, or add past work in the calendar. Timers you start yourself never stop just because no files changed.

Do I need the desktop app?

No. The browser extension works on its own, and timers work in the web app on any computer or phone. The desktop app adds tracking from file changes.

Can my employer see what I do on my computer?

No. In a team, owners and admins see the time members track on the team's projects. Nobody sees screenshots, keystrokes or file contents, because Temporal.ist never collects them.

What does it cost?

Solo is free, Pro costs €8 a month and Team costs €6 per seat a month, for at least 4 seats. Paying yearly saves up to 17%. Cancel any time; your history stays.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Paid features stay until the end of the period you paid for. After that the account continues on Solo: nothing is deleted, older history is simply out of view until you upgrade again.

Let your work keep its own time

Start on the free plan: no card and no trial period. Install the desktop app or the browser extension, choose what belongs to each project, and keep working.
