Time tracking that doesn't watch you

Temporal.ist is automatic time tracking for people who bill by the hour. The files you save and the sites you choose become sessions by themselves: no timers to start, no screenshots, no surveillance.

Why it exists

A billable hour is rarely one thing. It is an editor, a browser, a design file, a terminal and a few messages, all in fifteen minutes. Asking people to start and stop a timer for each of those is a losing fight against attention, and the result is the Friday-afternoon ritual of rebuilding the week from memory, which leaves honest work unbilled.

We think the timer is the wrong tool. Instead of asking you to say when work begins, Temporal.ist notices the work itself, the files you save and the pages you open for a project, and turns it into sessions. While much of the category moved towards monitoring people with screenshots and scores, we built the opposite on purpose.

What we believe

  • No surveillance

No screenshots, no keystroke logging, no productivity scores. Temporal.ist records what you worked on, never how.

  • Nothing hidden

Everything recorded about a session is visible to you: its times, its task and the files that changed. If you cannot see it, it was not recorded.

  • Your work stays yours

File contents never leave your computer. The apps keep working offline and upload only what your time records need.

  • Billing in the same place

Tracked sessions become invoice lines at your client's rate. No exporting to a second app, no retyping hours.

Who makes it

Temporal.ist is built by a small, independent team at ame.link. We are developers and freelancers ourselves, building the time tracker we wanted to use: one that is honest about what it records and stays out of the way.

It is paid for by its subscriptions, not by advertising or by selling data. Questions, ideas or a bug? Write to hello@temporal.ist or use the contact form.
